![]() Still a bit of lag there, but I moved most everyone's PST file to a local file/print server. We have one site that is stuck with 4 bonded T-1s as our ISP does not have fiber to the area. We have now migrated two of those sites to a fiber ELAN and the problems with Outlook lag have disappeared. ![]() Two were connected to the central office with bonded T-1s, and there was always heavy lag across the MPLS network. Regarding bandwidth, this was a huge problem for three of our sites. I let them know the old PST file is still available on their user share, and if they ever need it, just ask and we will reconnect it for them. The best way I have found to combat this, connect a clean PST file, ask them to drag-n-drop everything from the past year in to the new PST file, then disconnect the old one. Convincing them to give up their PST file is akin to asking them to cut off both their arms without anesthesia. I cringe just thinking about it, but I am IT, and I serve at the pleasure of the user. I have some administrators that have 25 GB PST files. They have been burned often enough by fellow employees, customers, and vendors that they save everything.and I do mean everything. With regards to PST files, we have in house Exchange, and folks who have been here since before the company installed it's first computers. It usually comes down to one of two things:Ģ) Limited bandwidth between Outlook and Exchange server. If they have an archive, get it in the mailbox so it's in the database, and then use a company-wide archiving solution/policy/procedure. 10GB OST file, 16MB NST file, no PST file. ![]() Just checked my own 2016 O365 folder which is set to defaults except downloading all mail, not just the last year. Or, make a new profile, and don't attach the archive.Ĭheck the item counts in the root folders (not just unread number, select like inbox and look in the lower left for items: xx,xxx. Since he has an archive, you'd just un-attach the archive PST and if it doesn't change things, it's not the PST. I've had 5gb PSTs on a decent network no problem. PST is for offline mail, OST is for cached mail. You would just remove the outlook profile under mail in control panel, and set it up again and let it re-download, where it would create a new OST. There is no "moving mail around" to a new PST because it's all in the cloud/on the server if on prem. He shouldn't have a PST, he should only have an OST. I'm currently in the process of re-creating his profile with the shared mailboxes set to run in online mode to make his OST file smaller to see if that resolves the issue, he's also got a 5GB Archive file (.PST) though. Disabled Add-ins and started in safemode.I've now upgraded him to an SSD and cloned the HDD to it, the winsat test is now coming back around 250MB/s but the user is still experiencing hangs although I'm sure they're not as bad. It will freeze while typing e-mails and looking through the inbox.įirst I noticed that his OST had reached 5GB which apparently is where you can start to run into performance issues ( Opens a new window), I did a winsat test on the link above and it came back at 3MB/s. One of my users is having issues with Outlook freezing constantly and it's driving me mad.
